Process Equation Patterns

The time series generated by the process equation consist of a sequence of one initial state, followed by a series of partitions, leading to the generation of complex biological forms. Thereby it resembles biological development as well as cosmological evolution.

At an abstract level, there is a suggestive similarity between the patterns generated by the process equation and the main patterns of natural processes. Energy flows in one direction, time. Radiation, the carrier of information, consists of periodic waves, and generates fractal forms. Spatial structure (matter) embodies period 3 in its tridimensionality. Biological processes are complex, i.e. have a larger number of dimensions.

According to process theory, mathematical form creates substance. The fundamental forms are asymmetry, complementary opposition, and co-creation of structure.

These forms create substance from the formless / uniform / fully symmetric flux that we call void. Likewise the process equation requires an initial value, no mater how small, and of either sign, to develop a time series.

The process equation models and instantiates the creation of pattern by the combination of asymmetry and complementary opposition.
